Hi all, I have been avidly collecting Canadian Encased Coins for some time. I would be very interested in hearing from other collectors of these coins. I would like to put together a definitive Canadian catalogue and would welcome collaborators. *** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***Please PM me or respond to the thread.

I think that would be a cool catalogue... While the coins themselves are Canadian decimal strikes, you might also want to think about posting in the Exonumia sub-forum here as well... http://goccf.com/f/11

I'd be interested in that catalogue. I think I have a few, but not many. I could keep my eyes peeled for more though.

What's an Encased Coin? Proofs/Uncs from the mint? Encased in plastic?

Okiecoiner, you sold me one of yours........ They are a normal circulating coin that has been enclosed in an outer ring, typically aluminum, that has on it an advertising slogan. Here is an ebay listing for such a coin. I have also been picking up some of the old cardboard ringed coins and the acrylic encasements from the 1960 and 1970s. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ENCASED-AU...AOSwZqZaFZgT

OK, now I understand. Was what I sold you the one from Hamilton with large cents in it?

This is probably the most common Encased Cent in all of the Dominion, and as you can see I have one more than I need. Trade suggestions welcome; pm's are open.

Thanks for posting!
As you say this one is among the most common. It comes in quite a few dates, a couple of which are tougher to find (like say 1961). 1963 is probably the most common with 1964 not far behind. There are a few different versions of the outer ring. Some of the outer rings also come with different orientations of the outer ring vs. the cent.

One of my favorite ones is the 1847 - 1947 Massey Harris 100 years. I dont have a picture of it.

From whiskyforeveryone.com
"The Scots spell it whisky and the Irish spell it whiskey, with an extra 'e'. This difference in the spelling comes from the translations of the word from the Scottish and Irish Gaelic forms. Whiskey with the extra 'e' is also used when referring to American whiskies."

OK but just one for now..... The John Forsyth Shirt Company operated out of Kitchener Ontario. In I would guess the mid 1940s, they did a farthing encasement. It seems probable that they just sourced the farthings locally as the dates are quite random (1917 being the most common). I have ended up with quite a trove of them, ranging in dates from 1869 to 1945 (with one more on the way to me now!).
