It's my understanding that around 15 years ago, there were many different types of late Roman bronzes being forged in Bulgaria (this despite the relatively meager value of the genuine article), and then distributed throughout Europe, a twist being that these counterfeits were insidiously mixed into bulk lots of genuine coins.
My questions:
1) Was this traffic ever suppressed?
2) To what degree were these purged from the marketplace, or do they remain a problem?
