I found this nickel amongst our change and the thickness drew my attention. I then realized the face of the coin is recessed on both sides. The building on the back has faint to no detail as it seems as though the ridge may have prevented full contact. Both sides have a ridge around the coin with both the front and back being slightly recessed. Trash or Treasure? :)

Thank you for the Welcoming Posts!! So... what gave me away as a Newbie? The fact that I had no idea what was up with coin? Or how huge my pictures are? LOL Thanks Y'all... I appreciated the help. Of all the hours of attending Google University tonight, I hadn't even run across the term Dryer Coin... I would have been at it all night! I hope ya don't mind... I'll be on here a bit... I have several coins from several countries to investigate! :)

Quote: what gave me away as a Newbie? First, welcome to CCF. Second, if you look at the left hand side of the screen, you can see how many posts we all have made on CCF. Generally, someone with only a couple posts (like yourself) is pretty new here and so we roll out the welcome mat. I agree with the others that this coin has been damaged after it left the mint. In addition to being damaged by being stuck in a clothes dryer, one other way that the rim can be more overhung is if someone has "spooned" this coin. That generally results in a faceted (i.e. less perfectly round) circumference, especially if someone is just playing around. If I had to guess, that is where I would my money. Keep it if you find it interesting, otherwise it can be safely spent.
