To me they appear to be toned from environmental damage, but I'm known to be wrong! LOL!

First, black beauties are a myth. Any nickel can be turned black with heat. So they have zero value.
Second, yours looks like toning that is still a long ways away from the much darker "black beauty" heat treatment.

I'm in the camp that Black Beauties are the result of a higher concentration of Cobalt with in the raw nickel used. I have "produced" heat treated nickels of the similar era coins, getting a blackish coloring. The one thing lacking is the purplish/blue cartwheel tinting I've seen on certain 1958 and 1959 coins. If there is no cartwheeling luster, especially from a circulated coin, that luster may not show up. If there is no bluish/purple, just a gunmetal color, it's Ted's or Hale's if it would be considered a BB, my vote would be 60/40 against it.

Ok thanks I'll check them out for luster as they look like an AU nickel would look just gun metal and a lot darker and black in person Let's see if I can figure it out they very well could just be fakes and if they are I will be sad but just put them in my "GARAGE JOB" collection with all my nickel plated coins and copper plated steel and so on and so forth
Just so you guys know I have a daylight light shining from direct left to get my pictures which way would be better to see what you guys need to see to confirm or denied these?

Wait, Black Beauties aren't real? I've been wondering to myself ever since I joined the forum and read about them just how many nickels over the years I might not have saved that were of that type.

I recently found a 1958 Black Beauty. Is this real? And worth anything?
