So I'm trying to get the black spots off of a cent and this is how I've come today I don't think it looks cleaned or has lost luster but you guys are the pros I took a cent that the spots could be seen with the naked eye the picture was taken with just the camera with light in the house during the day it's night now so I needed to use a like but with naked eye you can't even see spots anymore let me know I could have damaged it but I hate them Before After Edited by Mrzllewellyn 01/14/2018 9:05 pm

Honestly, I just have to ask: why do you put yourself through this, cleaning a 2017 cent?

I with you Mrzllewellyn. Those spots are very distracting on new coins. I envision some mint employee sneezing or coughing over a tote of freshly minted coins. The cents are especially susceptible to foreign fluid staining.I think you have made a worthwhile improvement that I'd have no problem using in my circulating coinage collection.

Interesting. Experiments can be fun. Worst case here is that you end up with the same worthless Zincoln.

It's funny that this day and age the USA still makes pennies.

It does not make sense to make cents.

It's kinda of an embarrassment really. Other nations did away with them because it no longer made sense to continuing to mint them. However our government is controlled by lobbyist and our legislators don't have the courage to do what is necessary and right and needed.

Yet stores keep displaying signs that say things like $.99 or $1.78 or $3.67. If no Cents are around, how do you buy that stuff?

Quote: If no cents are around, how do you buy that stuff? Put simply, if you're paying with a card, that exact amount will be deducted from your balance. If you're paying with cash, it would round to the nearest whatever cents.
