Hello all,
going through coins from the 60's and came across this 1969D that has a possible
error.
I have gone through several rolls of 1969 cents and I have seen this on several of them.
Is this a Greaser? or another error? is it worth keeping? does it have any value? Has anyone seen this before?

This is caused from over polishing dies.
Collectors refer to it as a "Floating Roof".

It is somewhat common on 1969-D cents.

Some 1969-D cents are missing the designer's initials from the reverse. Some collectors do look for that and they do carry a small premium over face value.

The "official" Floating roof has BOTH sides missing. It has to be completely gone, any tiny semblance and it doesn't "qualify". There are some who may buy a pristine example, but they really are quite common on the 69D and 70D years.

Yeah I would find one missing both sides and keep for my collection I have quite a few now I can't seem to throw them back lol I got 69 69d 69s 70 70D so far all with floating roofs and I have a 70 S that has a tiny piece still left on right side need to find a better example and I will be good I look for them on every year though I found a 2001 with half a floating roof wish it was the whole thing but yeah find one with both missing one side is just a structural problem lol

Just an over polished die. People put names on these trying to get somebody to buy the boat load they found. Give me a variety/EDS coin any day. At least I have something to sell later on.
