I have unopened rolls of Us mint coins that I do not want to un-roll (open) how long can e.g., the new presidential coins be left in rolls before possible damage?

Thanks in advance ptb

I would think for a long time if you keep them in a dry, humidity controlled environment. I recently opened a roll of 1964 1/2 pennies. Apart from the end coins which had toned a little, the rest were as good as the day they were made.

I wouldn't worry about the Mint wrappers damaging the coins, maybe a little toning but that would be about it. Older paper wrappers have a high sulfur content and would start out toning the coins but over time it could turn into corrosion, especially if the rolls were improperly stored(high humidity, heat, etc). As long as your rolls are properly stored, you should have nothing to worry about. Unwrapping them would destroy any potential value from the special Mint wrappers that you paid an extra ~$11/roll for. I am not saying they will be more valuable than a solid roll from a bank, but collector interests in the future could dictate a premium of some sort for those wrappers.

If you wanted to get really fancy, you could order the roll storage boxes from the Mint http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ory_rn=10142

Yes I think you are both probably right! I shall leave them in the wrappers and of course they have been kept in a cool, dry, humid-free environment. And as for biokemist6's idea for the mint offered storage boxes @ $13.95 for a box that holds only four rolls thanks but no thanks. I give the mint enough money beyond the dollar roll premium as it is. Thanks though for the link and suggestion.

The Presidential dollars are special. They have a protective anti-corrosion coating that will keep them safe for many, many years. If you look at what happened to the early Sac's, the Presidental dollars are not supposed to that.
