At first I though that it's a Japanese token. Then I thought it may be a Cambodian token from the French colony era. Either way, I haven't been able to find it online or in the few reference books I own.
Does anyone know the language? It looks a little too squiggly for Japan, but I wouldn't know.
It is made of copper or bronze, possibly gilded, and about the size of a half dollar.

Thanks in advance!

I believe that it's a 30th anniversary of the Japanese Red Cross.

Thanks Echizento for the info. Gary, that one has the same pictorial, but the writing on the opposite side is quite different. I'll keep searching, thanks!

The reverse says:
- top row,arc : Meiji 37, 8 year war service
- 2nd row: rescue and relief
- 3rd row: commemorative medal
- 4th row: Japanese Red Cross Society

The medal is Japanese, using ancient character stlye called tensho and the characters should be read backwards. Meiji 37 corresponds to year 1904.
