@Silveroid: I interpreted atticguy's question as him wondering about other new releases with a $2 denomination (vs. $5 or $10 or $20) - not wondering about the other coins in the Specimen Set.

Oh, yes...this reasonable.
He probably collects "circulation-like FV" coins ...SD, Loonie, Toonie etc, while the higher denomination more suitable for NCLT and 1oz bullion coin.
Thank you for clarification, Commems

Quote: And later we will have another set with the "Young Wildlife" with special $2 coin. I think 2015 was the last of this series. Wish it had of continued.

Wow! I took a long nap and missed out on a lot of posts. :) @commems: You've got it right. I buy the specimen sets each year and I know what's in them. When I questioned 'face-value', I was referring to almost all of the other February releases, such as the Pysanka, Birth Stones, Gates of Canada, Apple Blossom, etc. Is the Apple Blossom a quarter like the recent large 'cactus' quarter? Are the 'Grandma Moon' coins specimen dollars like the 'Bird Series' that I'll get when I buy my specimen set? I began years ago as a collector of USA coinage; now my US want list is down to seven coins (circulated and proof), and all are on the 'pricey' side. About ten years ago I took up Canadian coins, as I found them interesting. Also, being so close to the border, finding circulated Canadian coins was fairly easy, including older (silver) coins. I worked in retail, and while everyone knew what to watch for in 'American' change, they didn't have a clue about Canadian coins; putting them in the 'junk' change pile. I was quickly able to fill the majority of my Canadian folders until I got down to the 'Vickies' and "Eddies'. At that point I decided to get into the uncirculated types (proofs, specimens, and commemoratives). I started just with quarters, but I expanded later into cents, nickels, dimes, halves, dollars, and twonies. I decided to draw my line at $2! The quantity and $$ amount of coinage over twonies issued each year by the RCM was just too much for me to handle. Sorry for beginning the story of my life. @loonielewy: I don't have any "verified" info on post 2015 "Young Wildlife" $2 specimens either. I've used my 2016 Charlton guides for almost all of my hobby info; so I might need to get the latest copy. At this time I don't have ANY of the "YW" releases, but I do have empty (and labeled) 2x2's in my binder waiting for them.

Sorry, Atticguy for confusion, but there is some nice info came out it. Quote: Is the Apple Blossom a quarter like the recent large 'cactus' quarter? Are the 'Grandma Moon' coins specimen dollars like the 'Bird Series' that I'll get when I buy my specimen set? The Apple Blossom coin is FV of CAD 15. Used same dimensions like Silver Dollar. The Gradma Moon coins are Face Value $3, can assume, that they 1/4oz silver, 27 mm. This is what I thought initially - looks like low entry $3 coins, pushed away 'oversized base metal quarters' . But still Mint will issue 50c coins on the card, which will be used for 'licensed' themes.

Quote: I don't have any "verified" info on post 2015 "Young Wildlife" $2 specimens either Shame on me if I missed them, but this is how I got my "old style" loonies and toonies from 2013 to 2015. Then that source dried up. A victim of profitability? I'll still get the one this month, the bird series is fun too. And I love the finish on these coins. Hands down, some of my favorite loonies.

Well I just visited the RCM website and bought the new specimen set; along with the 'base' Cook silver dollar and the 2018 uncirculated set. Still want to buy the silver proof SET but I'm going to wait until the price drops to under $100.

Thank to Looney4Numi: "Limit of 1 at Gatewest and TCS. Not available (yet) at LCC, West Edmonton, or CA."Looks like next desirable item after iPhone X. The first was a hit, that we didn't believe it would be, the second was "meh', the third projecting to be mega-hit?

Gatewest is also showing a

available for pre-order.
Is that part of the February 2018 release?
