This coin has been floating around locally for a while. Each time it pops up, I get tempted. I could probably grab it for $75 or less. So... how would you grade the coin? How would you value the coin? Thanks!

I'd wonder why it's been "floating around" and "pops up" (as you put it). Good coins generally don't have to be repeatedly hawked, even if the exposure is just local.

It's hard to tell definitively from these photos, but I think I see a few raised bumps in the fields that might be indicative of a casting. You'd absolutely have to have this in hand to make a judgment as to authenticity, which ought to be your first concern before apparent grade.

If genuine, it'd obviously be a hotter item (with a heftier price tag) here in the U.S.

Looks genuine but very worn.$75 IMO is on the high side.

Authenticity should be your first priority over grading. It appears genuine, but you should have the coin in hand before making a decision. Weight and diameter need to be checked, along with an examination of the edges and devices.

A coin like this may very well "float around" simply because there tends to be very little appreciation of US coinage in these parts other than some of the usual suspects, such as Morgan dollars (which often sell for twice what they should). I can't examine the coin in advance but I'm sure I can return it. Probably one of those times to recall my pledge (to myself) to stay focused on LCs...

Wow! Maybe I should start shipping them to you for resale!

On the Hibernia it looks like it's in decent shape. I hesitate on offering a grade on any colonial which is why I only buy graded examples but I would say in the fine range if it's real. For $75 I would be tempted if I had access to fast authentication.

Triple-check that return policy.

If you can't examine the coin before you buy it, something's up.

I know someone who has tried this. The price differential was there but the volume of demand was insufficient to make it work.

I'm in Christchurch, the seller is in Auckland (a plane ride away).
