Going through some Lincoln cents and found this extraordinary 1974 D Lincoln Cent. How it survived I have no clue but here it is. I need some help telling me how this could have happened. Experts please advise as to what I need to do. Is it worth sending off and authenticated?

That's a very easy one to answer. It was Struck on a Split Planchet. The planchet split before the strike happened. Here's a link to the Split Planchet error. Nice find by the way! http://www.error-ref.com/split_plan_before/

It sure did! It's already there and I don't think I'll send it off but I'm sure going to keep it.

I think I'm going to have this Lincoln Cent graded, any suggestions or is it worth the money to have this done?
