Recent pick up (sellers pics) 1794 U.S. Large Cent, head of 94.I tried to find the Sheldon variety but am cross eyed now. I do not have a book on these, so I tried the hard way looking at registry set photos...lol. I darkened the pics to help see the details a little better.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks! RK

there are a lot of 1794 head of 94 varieties. germanicvs seems to be an expert. hopefully he stops by.

I think I have narrowed it down to S-30 or S-31 based on the extra lower hair curl and the LIBERTY position.

What do you guys think?

I agree that the double lock at bottom of hair narrows it to s30 and s31. I believe it is s31 because the 1 touches the hair in the s30 but is 0.5mm apart in s31.

Looking at your picture, the 1 in the date is not clear, but it appears to me that the 1 is not touching the hair. s31 in my opinion.

The reverse is too far gone to identify diagnostics.

s31 is R2 which is a little scarcer than the R1 s30.

Agree with S-31 for the reasons stated.

With regard to rarity, the Red Book puts the S-30 population at 1250-1500 and that of the S-31 in the "thousands".
