A lot of times I see this but the 4 is partially there...
This one is g-o-n-e, gone!
The "D" mm is just kind of a blob...interesting to me...

Very common on the steel cents, steel on steel killed the dies really early in their life, the S punches on many were weakly sunk. With numerous polishings the devices became very shallow clogging with grease often.

I believe that is an "S" mint mark, not a "D". I have several 1943-S coins that look just like that.
