I recently put a bid in on E-Bay , 12 other bids says identities protected ,and the 13th. bid is mine . The question is do I have any chance of winning the coin at hammer time against these unknown bidders ?

Just bid the most you would pay in the last 5 seconds and hope. I have won a few with hidden bidders, but not very often.
good luck!

Should the fact that the bidders' identities are hidden make a difference? Either you're going to be outbid in the last few seconds or you're not.

Yeah, I don't see that it makes much of a difference. Just bid your max toward the end and let it play out. Can you normally see the names of the other bidders?

No. They are encoded, but you can at least access some info about their recent bidding patterns (what percent of their bids are with the seller of the current item, what categories they have bid on in the last 30 days ./). I've always wondered about those identity protected folks.

It's not clear from the original post how many bidders have placed those 12 bids. If there are 12 other bidders (which is unlikely) you have little chance of winning, unless price is no object. If it is two bidders going back and forth against each other, one of 'em may throw in the towel, and you may have a shot. When I feel it is a coin I MUST have (which last occurred on ebay 3 or 4 years ago), and there are a few active bidders, I'll put in a bid that's double the high bid with 5 minutes left. Good luck!

T-BOP - just out of curiosity you might want to take a look at the seller's feedback to see if ID's are also protected there.

According to the bidders list ,I can't tell how many different bidders on this coin . I'm not sure if other buyers from seller are protected , a little confusing . I guess I'll just take advise from above members and flip my switch at last few seconds .

The private listing is an option for the seller to hide the identies of all the bidders, so your identity would also be hidden from the other bidders. Not sure why that would be done for a coin, unless perhaps they're trying to mask shill bidding. But agree that it really shouldn't change your bidding strategy.

Not sure why that would be done for a coin... Not only hidden from other bidders, but hidden on the feedback page as well. Some sellers do this to protect the buyer's privacy, which may be desirable on high-ticket items. I wish more sellers did this -- someone who buys almost entirely coins may as well have a target painted on their feedback page.
