The official name and identifiers were revealed at the 2017 American Numismatic Association World's Fair of Money in the literary exhibit titled: Debut of the President of the United States special Government Series. A third book is being written about these special Government medals. There are five medal classes in the President of the United States (POTUS) special Government medal (sGm) series. http://potus-sgm.com/

The first two images aids in identifying what is a special Government medal (sGm) as it fits in the Bureau of the Mint (BoM) (now called the U.S. Mint) operations from 1958 to 1962. It took research to define this U.S. numismatic model for the 1958 to 1962 period.

The following class 2 sGm image is a "3 Degrees of Separation (DoS)" from President Eisenhower specimen in my collection. 3 DoS is defined as President Eisenhower TO U.S. Secret Service agent (name not shown for privacy) TO Friend of U.S. Secret Service agent (name not shown for privacy) TO Darryl Gomez. (Note that the number of TOs is 3, hence 3 DoS from President Eisenhower.) This 3 DoS provides a full chain of legal ownership (I have the documents), thus establishing its true presidential provenance. In addition, there is a 1960 BoM memo that established that the BoM manufactured a series of sGm for President Eisenhower's use. The full chain of legal ownership is extraordinary (and repeatable for this series).

I recently received a registered copyright certificate from my application of the literary work that was submitted in August 2017.

I'm ecstatic to share my numismatic discovery (once again). Who knew that I would discover, organize, and form an over half-century old undocumented U.S. Mint series!

Below is a snippet of an email from an established author/publisher (specializes in National Commemorative medals). I hope he does't mind me sharing this.

Another U.S. Secret Service agent POTUS sGm class 2 specimen (same size as a Morgan/Peace silver dollar).

This specimen does not have full provenance, but can be pedigreed to agent Rufus Youngblood (original recipient of the medal from President Eisenhower). I will post images of the medal in a later entry.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rufus_Youngblood

The back story:

I purchased this POTUS sGm from a fellow living in California.

On the medal holder was a sticker with text. The initials "JL" was confusing at first. Then I made the connection JL = Joseph Levine (owner of Presidential Coin and Antique Company in Virginia, who specializes in presidential medals).

Recently-Formed-And-Organized-US-Mint-Medal-Series:-Potus-Sgm

I like the text "Ike present R.Y.".

I shot off an email with images of the holder and medal.

Joseph Levine confirmed that he personally purchased several items from Rufus Youngblood. He indicated one gold medal from agent Youngblood now resides at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library.

As you can see, the POTUS sGm medals series is a numismatic treat to find and collect!

President Dwight D. Eisenhower made an official visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK) (aka South Korea) as part of his "Far East" tour. President Eisenhower was in the ROK on June 19 and 20, 1960.

Image 1 is a ROK commemorative stamp cover to celebrate President Eisenhower's arrival. The cover was manufactured by the Korean Government Printing Agency. The stamps themselves were design by Choon Whan Kang.

Image 2 is the reverse of Gomez-C2-05 POTUS sGm. Based on my research findings (records from the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration) only 225 are available to collectors. This Class 2 POTUS sGm has the same dimensions as a U.S. Morgan and Peace silver dollar. However, the Bureau of the Mint wanted to reuse the collars of the dollars and grinded down its reeded edge. As a result all class 2 POTUS sGms are smoothed edged.

Image 3 is the obverse of Gomez-C2-05 POTUS sGm. President Eisenhower's facsimile signature is incuse and part of the obverse design (not engraved after Bureau of the Mint struck the medal). A partial listing of names of individuals who received the medal have been found. On the list are Korean nationals employed by the U.S. Embassy (along with U.S. Embassy staff and U.S. military).

Only those who provided direct support of President Eisenhower's arrival, tour, and departure received the medal.

My research has taken strides forward with the following breakthrough.

I have currently documented four "unintentional" Bureau of the Mint (aka U.S. Mint) medal series using the Bureau of the Mint (BOM) Manufacturing Triad model (specifically the third component, Manufacture special medals for U.S. government agencies).

The term "unintentional" is clarified in that these new series were created by the acquiring U.S. Government agency from the first and each subsequent order type with the BOM.

As a quick overview, the third component of the BOM Manufacturing Triad only required authorization to manufacture from ONLY the Director of the Mint (no congressional authorization was required).

Here are the currently four U.S. Government agencies that used the BOM as a made-to-order manufacturer. It should be noted that sGm stands for special Government medal (aka special medals for U.S. Government agencies).

1. White House office (designers Gilroy Roberts and Frank Gasparro). Series name assigned by me, The POTUS sGm series.

2. Department of the Interior (designer Gilroy Roberts). Series name assigned by me, The DOI sGm series.

3. Department of Commerce (designer Gilroy Roberts). Series name assigned by me, The DOC sGm series.

4. Central Intelligence Agency (designers Gilroy Roberts and Frank Gasparro). Series name assigned by me, The CIA sGm series.

As a result of these four new sGm series are in the process of being organized and formed as BOM issues, it can be said that that BOM Manufacturing Triad concept has been validated.

I have also developed a methodology to identify the original BOM CIA medals.

And of course, the original research that lead to the POTUS sGm series.

First ever group photo of special Government medals from four different U.S. Government agencies.

That CIA sGm medal is both large and heavy.

The POTUS sGm (one with the two torches) is the size of a U.S. Morgan silver dollar.

June 20 - 25, 1960. The first U.S. President to visit the State of Hawaii was Dwight D. Eisenhower. The first U.S. Mint medal with the design element with the State of Hawaii were the medals awarded by President Eisenhower during his visit. Currently, only 267 specimens are known to be available to the public (if you can them).

To clarify:
In 1883, the U.S. Mint manufactured $1, 50c, 25c, and 10c for the Kingdom of Hawaii.

In 1928, the U.S. Mint manufactured 50c commemorative coins for the Territory of Hawaii.

In 1960, the U.S. Mint manufactured Eisenhower Appreciation medals for the President as awards to those who aided in his trip to, stay, and trip from Hawaii. Image of the maps illustrates President Eisenhower trips. Photographs are of his arrival. Newspaper article documented his visit.
