When I got back in to the hobby this was the first problem coin that I knowingly purchased. (I feel it has been wiped) the dealer felt the same. That being said I still thought it was gorgeous. Do you think this has a market acceptable appearance or would it details grade? Also what would you grade her?

AU-55, faint evidence of old cleaning or at least thumbing under the toning.

50/50 on what a TPG would say. It has pretty toning but usually when the hairlines are that obvious they usually come back cleaned. There's only one way to find out. I agree with 55.

The coin is very attractive. I would add a premium for the color and eye appeal, and a discount for the cleaning. In my case the premium would be slightly larger than the discount. I have bought and sold several details designated coins that were beautifully toned for high premiums over list. There are people out there that will never touch them to instill some sort of purity to their collections. Then there are others who buy what they like, regardless of what a TPG holder or others say. Au deets cleaned.

53. There are enough parallel hair lines evident to keep it out of a righteous grading. However, it's still a lovely example with nice strong center strike both obverse and reverse. Retoning is quite attractive.
Even though it would detail, it's still attractive.

Probably stripped and retoned; the huge images likely make the hairlines look worse than in-hand. It's retoned nicely and should grade AU problem-free.

The obvious hairlines in the fields compel me to suggest this otherwise gorgeous AU coin would receive a 'Details' grade at any TPG. It's visually lovely ... and a wonderful indeed collectable from our nations numismatic history.

AU-50 details as I think the hairlines are a bit too prevalent.
