I am no expert, but this one is so bad that it is embarrassing to me that anybody who claims to be a collector could fall for it... which has already happened. I think that in some minds, some collectors think "this coin is so crappy it must be real"

Actually this can be of concern. Wait till someone uses it as a pocket piece. I wonder what it looks like afterwards.

Assuming the fakes are of the same composition. Personally, it would take way too long to be worth it to wear down a fake to disguise the evidence. I've been working on a Morgan for 10 months now and I have yet to get all the gold plating off.

But what happen if you introduce an industrial scale rock tumbler into the equation? Unfortunately I'm seen some Chinese counterfeits that have been artificially worn out.

I thought I had something going on with my 55 coins but now I realize I got nothing, at least when compared to collections like yours.

I have honestly given up on reporting ebay listed counterfeit classic silver commemorative examples ....

My personal interest in honestly circulated examples compels me to search the entire ebay listing ... and as a result I often come across obvious (to me) counterfeits.

Report them to ebay ... nothing happens.

I say buyer beware and education such as CCF provides is your best defense.
