I think craigslist is an extremely shady and scummy place. The chances of you getting an positive experience would be low(I've never used it and don't plan to).

Just curious...why do you say this? Without having used it, you are making a pretty bold statement so is this based on experience of friends and family? Besides myself, I know of two other people who have used it with good success.

One is a coworker who was trying to sell his car. He offered it to people at work for $1500 and I told him to post it on craigslist. He did and within a couple of hours he had about 7 response. He ended up getting MORE for his car than what he listed it at, and sold it for $2300. I would say the experience went well for him.

I know people who do rental properties and get so many more responses to their listings than what they get from the newspaper. They have found plenty of good tenants from craigslist and I havent heard them say one negative thing.

Besides these two, I mentioned earlier that I have had around 6 successful transactions buying coins on craigslist. I posted that I was buying and picked up some decent collections on there at a good price (I pay more than what they would have received selling to a dealer, but less than what they would get on ebay - no fees to hassle with, no shipping to hassle with). The only negative thing I can say is that some people are not good about following up, but never had anyone not show up when we agree to meet and everyone I have bought from has been very friendly.

I've used Craig's List a few times (Morgan/Peace/Bullion).

Overall it's been fine.

Biggest problem is the lack of proofreading when someone places an ad. Sometimes I'll ask for clarification (or make a low offer) due to a poor description and sometimes that seems to offend some people.

Oh well...

Good luck.

I've been on it, but I've never personally used it. I know a number of people who have used it and it always caused some sort of problems. Someone was trying to sell a car on there and they felt that they got some suspicious buyers looking at the car. Later that night, someone broke into their garage and tried to steal it. A friend of mine told me that his friend was looking for a roommate so he found someone off of craigslist and the roommate ended up robbing him a week or two later and disappearing. It's also know to dump stolen merchandise and it has a lot of prostitution on there. Just do some searches online and you'll find various stories about it. I guess that because it's free and their posts get deleted quickly it attracts some unfavorable people.

I always figured no one is stupid enough to break into someone's house in South Carolina.

If someone breaks in your house, then you have the right to kill them as long as they are still in there. They can be unarmed, they can give up, they can beg forgiveness, but if they broke in and still are inside... you can kill them with immunity.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I heard a story about a guy in a town about 30 mins from me that caught the guy inside his house. The bad guy got down on his knees an begged the guy to just call the police. The guy shot him in the head. No charges.

A police officer told me about a guy that walked in and a guy was in his kitchen. Good guy just shot him. No charges.

Craigslist is Great!!

I have used it for both buying and selling non-coin items and have used it to buy coins, and I have gotten quite a few good deals. you just have to be patient. And like others have said, meet in a public place.

Oh, and always deal locally. I have heard of a few people who have been scammed with non local transactions. (fortunatly they weren't for a lot of money)

I agree with CoinHunter. There are bad things that can and have happened with all channels of trade, just like on eB*y, the newspaper classifieds, even among two friends who buy something from each other! So Craigslist is no exception. I have had 100% positive experiences on there with some high dollar stuff being bought and sold, but I wouldn't also necessarily say it is 100% safe and that way all the time. So I wouldn't same the opposite either.

It does take a bit of street smarts and deal making savvy to know how to make a deal go down smooth and safely with strangers no matter how you do it, Craigslist or not. I've taken many stupid risks and chances, and all worked out OK, but I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Here are some of my personal rules that I should follow myself more often lol:

- Always meet at public places (library, coffee shops, banks, police stations!) or own your own turf but with people you trust around
- If you have to meet at their location, either take someone with you or at the very least tell someone exactly what address you are going to and the name and phone # of the person you are meeting, AND tell them that you will call them immediately after the deal. If you don't call within a reasonable amount of time, have them call you. If no answer, call the cops.
- Don't make it seem like you have wads of cash. In fact, if I'm buying, I often let them know I have to go to the ATM to get the cash

I'll try to remember more of them.

Sorta funny Craigslist story:

I was buying something from some person who lived a long ways away, but it was a good deal so I and my girlfriend agreed to drive out there (too heavy to ship anyway). It turns out to be some suburban town in almost Nowheresville. No prob. Get to his place and he tells me to meet him in his garage (behind his house, in the alley). I go back there and the garage opens. It's kinda dark. I and my GF walk in and as soon as he flips on the lights, the first thing we notice is a big Nazi type flag or poster on the wall. My GF and I look at each other and think "We're in trouble, aren't we?". The guy greeting us is a big biker type dude. Beard, leather vest and all. I start thinking "Am I able to take this guy down while my GF kicks him in the nads or something?". The garage closes behind us and we start sweating. Then out of the corner of my eye, I spot some Bob Marley posters and other worldly type stuff. I nudge my GF and she sees it too. WHEW! Turns out he was just some eccentric guy who collects all kinds of memorabilia. Turns out to be a pretty cool and interesting guy.

So the moral is, please don't walk into strange dark garages.

I did a purchase of a small coin collection off of Craigslist today. It went very smoothly and we met up at a restaurant to make the exchange. So far that is something like 7 positive exchanges from Craigslist.
