Royal Canadian Mint - Your 5 oz. pure silver coin features a unique convex shape, making the reverse rise toward the viewer. Canadian artist Claudio D'Angelo's design of a swirling storm of maple leaves bolsters the sense of depth and dimension. The concave obverse reproduces one of the reverse leaves in a repeating pattern. The reverse features the date "2018" and the word "CANADA". The obverse features a concentric repeating leaf pattern along with the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

I would rather see the curve accentuated. I mean this is just my personal taste.

More like a little north of navel. LOL But seriously, first they use the convex to show Canada from space....then a basket ball , librarys, Capt' America's Shield, etc now this, although a bigger planchet.

The Mint develops an attractive new unique technique, then use the crap out of it until it's neither attractive, nor unique.

ps, maybe we should lock this thread, before those who command the mint get any ideas of more 3D coins.

They issued a 5oz Maple Leaves in Motion coin in 2017... same as this, slightly different design and regular proof vs. this coin's antiqued proof. In general I like the 5oz coins but the 2017 issue was underwhelming. Because of the convex pressing, the diameter is smaller than a regular 5oz (60mm vs. 65mm). A 5oz proof coin should be something substantial, imposing... The 2017 missed this mark. I will give this one a pass.
