Hey all,

My Granny recently found this old coin in her jewellery box and gave it to me. I have absolutely no knowledge of coins and was just wondering if anyone could help me identify it. The coin is incredibly worn meaning identifying might be difficult but I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks

(let me know if you need any more photos from different angles etc)

- Matt

It looks like a 1799 half penny from Great Britain. What are the weight and diameter?

The 1799 halfpenny was 30.5mm and 12.5g. Given the wear on your coin, 11g seems reasonable.

Also, the legend is clear enough to see that the "S" in "GEORGIUS" is roughly level with the back centre of the head, in the 9 o'clock position. In the 1806/7 issues the "S" was much higher up the head, at about 11 o'clock.

I agree with bd251.

Not much value, but great history.
