Hey guys. Been coin hunting all day on my day off and I pulled this 1934 penny that's in pretty nice condition but it it red. Never seen it before but I'm sure it's from a chemical. Any way I can clean it off without damaging the penny?

Just the way it turned in its life. May have spent time in Georgia clay? You could give it the acetone bath, but probably won't change the patina. Leave it alone otherwise.

You have a nice chocolate brown (in the pictures anyway) LWC. I like it just the way it is.

I would leave it alone. It has a decent circulation cameo.

I don't see a red coin . It's a common circulated Wheat cent in it's natural color . As said above just leave it the way it is .

We've all seen that brownish red color shown here. It's an environmental reaction of some sort.

I also have a "red cent".

Nice-Condition-1934-Penny-From-Roll-Hunting..-In-Red-Dye?
United States Cent 1934-D

It had been painted red at one time.

I had heard that in the 1920's and 1930's travelling circuses and carnivals would paint pennies red and put them into circulation as a form of advertising.

Has anyone else heard this story?
