Just as I feel like I can identify a MD as apposed to a DD. Then something like this comes along and makes me rethink things. I compared this one to another 1957-D penny I have and it looks like the 1 and 9 are slightly larger than usual. I'll leave it to you "experts" though.

The MD gets real extreme this year:

My image host is not working right now, But in the above thread go down to the 1957 image on my post. You can see the MD is very extreme, but it never usually doesn't enlarges the devices. It always reduces the normal size of the device 99% of the time. The area affected may think it is, but it is not. Only a doubled die enlarges the devices. let me repeat that: Only a doubled die enlarges the devices. So with the exception of Push/slide doubling the devices are usually the same size as normal.

I thought Machine Doubling doesn't necessarily make the size of the letters or numbers larger. If I compare this to another coin the numbers look larger than they are supposed to be to me, at least the 1 and 9 do.

Well it should be unless it is slide doubling. It alters the devices buy punching them around:

It is sometimes called slide doubling.

I re-edited my previous comment.

That would be a die chip, not a Cud.
