Seems like this one hasn't been posted previously on CCF, so I hope all y'all enjoy it as much as I am. This new addition to my collection is an AE Tet from King Maga, the last or perhaps second-to-last (by some later accounts) ruler of this Parthian vassal state that is located in modern-day Kuwait. Maga's realm dates to between 195 and 210 AD and, interestingly, marks the terminus of the Hellenistic Age as King Maga was the end of the royal line going back to Alexander the Great ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maga_of_Characene).Virtually everything I know about Parthian coins comes from this CCF document: https://www.coincommunity.com/pdf/A...-Elymais.pdf Unfortunately, @bobL doesn't include much information about the Characene state in his Elymaic-centric manuscript. It came attributed as GIC 5932, but I don't have this book. Fortunately, I have found it in my copy of Seaby Greek Coins and Their Values (#2625). I don't think that these coins are super rare, although a quick look on the interwebs in the usual places did not turn up any examples currently for sale. As always, I'm very interested in your thoughts and clarifications. "If you climb a good tree, you get a push." -----Ghanaian proverb

Nice pick-up there, Dave. I've admired Characene coins for years, although I never took the plunge. Here are a couple of relvant pages from Wayne Sayles' "Ancient Coin Collecting VI: Non-Classical Cultures":

Nice coin Dave, I've also been interested in them but like Bob haven't taken the plunge. I highly recommend getting a set of Wayne Sayles books, I've had them for years and refer to them often.

Quote: I highly recommend getting a set of Wayne Sayles books, I've had them for years and refer to them often. Me too. And, actually, big chunks of some of the books from that series are online at this point. If this link works, here's "Non-Classical": https://books.google.com/books?id=Y...ge&q&f=false
