Hi All, I have decided (after many years) to consolidate my collection of US 19-20th century coins to focus on only the Morgan/Peace collection as well as expand my 16-19th century Austria/German Thaler collection. I am looking to sell/trade my complete sets of Lincoln, Liberty, Buffalo, Barber, Walker, Franklin coinage. What would the forum suggest as the best approach to attain the best value for these (dealer, ebay, trade in)? Thanks, Zohar |

This is a good forum with alot of trustworthy people, but I do believe you need 50 posts to engage in the selling or trading forums. ebay is good except you will have to deal with listing fees, final value fees, and Paypal fees so this will erode your profits. Selling to a dealer is only good in the sense that you get cash right away, but you wont get top dollar for your coins. Hope this helps some... |

My thoughts as well. The real question is time and to sell a complete collection at a premium, or break it up into smaller pieces.

Welcome to the CC forums! You're best bet is selling them here, it's free. Generally, you're better off selling individually than as a set.

If you go the ebay route be sure to have really good pics. A lot of people won't even bid on an auction with fuzzy pics let alone go top dollar for obvious reasons. CoinHunter is right though in that the fees involved eat up a lot of your profits so that needs to be taken into account as well. I think they are right in that selling here could be a good deal if you have what someone is looking for. If you want to deal with putting in the fifty posts it could be worth your while. |

I suggest sticking around and getting your 50 posts (like me) and then you can sell and trade your sets. If you have not looked in that part of the forum yet I would suggest doing so. I was amazed at what the members here do to help each other out without trying to take advantage of each other.

I tried consolidating some of my collection in trying to upgrade and improve my Morgans as well but then I found some really nice Liberty nickels and started that set so I get torn between my nickels and Morgans.....oh well |

Time is the key. How much is your time worth to divide up a collection to get a couple of coins sold at a time. I would suggest the time/profit ratio would be best by pulling the keys/semikeys and getting them slabbed and sold separately and then sell the remaindered set. With a PCGS,ANAC,NGC,ICG slab, you only need minimal photos, and don't have to argue about the grade or the return of a "substitute" coin for a refund. Listing time, photographing time, mailing time, etc....all is a demand on you, and probably be less than the cost of slabbing. If you are serious about consolidating, DO IT FAST. The longer you mess with those sets, the more likely you are to be "trapped"  Dom is right. Once you look at the nice lincolns or buffaloes again...... Jim |

WELCOME TO THE FORUM.
My suggestion is to forget selling or getting rid of anything. If you can afford to keep everything you have, do so. The reason is all my life I am a little sick of so many people saying "I used to have that" or them or it or those. Had to get rid of, whatever. Now sorry about it. Keep everything so someday in the future you can say "I ALMOST got rid of xxxxx but here they still are and am I glad"

Dealer - quick sale less ROI than you will / would get if selling to general public.
I would agree with many others stick around and post 50+ and see what your coins could fetch selling here - from what I am learning to be a great group of people here at coin community forum. Who knows maybe I will have 50 posts by the time you sell and make an offer on some of those walkers.
