Patience is a virtue Peter.

Here is some info regarding your coin:

-I was not able to find the obverse and reverse matching images on the same coin.

-The image is of Sun Yat-sen.

-I did find a Sun Yat-Sen with a two masted ship on the reverse, but Sun Yat-Sen was left facing.

-I also found one with a 3 masted ship but Sun Yat-Sen was left facing on it as well.

-The 5th character above his image concerns me as I think the right "leg" should go all the way through to the top "bar" - I am basing that on other photos. However I could be wrong since I do not read or speak the language.

So I believe this information should give you a good start on continuing the search on your coin.

Modern fantasy coin, one tael denomination reverse. Luigi Giorgi was an Italian engraver working at the Tianjin mint (I think) whose name only appears on some early Chinese republican patterns. Real L Giorgi pieces, like the L Giorgi "fat man" dollar, are sold for tens of thousands of dollars. This one could not have been a real pattern piece, however, because it is dated "Republic of China year 18" or 1929, at which time Giorgi had been dead for 17 years! Also not tael coins were not made at the time (the denomination had been phased out in favour of the yuan toward the end of the imperial period, a few decades prior) nor would they have been nickel (they would've been .900 silver).

At least this modern fake is easy enough to spot. Hope you didn't spend too much on it.

Many of those are search engine robots. They know nothing.
