Any information gratefully received. The only other example I can find is mounted in an identical bezel - perhaps they were sold this way. That example is said to be sterling silver. Elsewhere I find that Mississippi and one other state were the only ones which did not issue an official state Bicentennial medal, so perhaps this was an emission of another source. Seems to be a scarce item.

Lots of US states issued bicentennial commemorative tokens. This one seemingly was Mississippi's entry into that genre (although to your point, I'm not sure if it was officially sanctioned by the state). Might be interesting for a collector of bicentennial items. Not sure on how many were made, but "rarity" would also depend on how many collectors are clamoring for these.

The example that was sold on Etsy was listed as sterling, but elsewhere, there is an example of the same design in bronze (no bezel).

Thank you for the reply. I had not seen the bronze example. I'd still like to know who authorized the medal, who struck it, the medalist, and if it was a limited issue, how many in which metals. Thanks again!

I know this post is old, but just got one of these in bronze. It's in uncirculated condition with no bezel. I was wondering if anyone found out anything about these. Thanks

@boatinu, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm not aware of any progress that was made beyond what you can read in this thread so please enlighten us if you have any more info from your purchase. And of course we always like seeing pictures--please show us your example of this token.
