I've been looking at an ANACS slab of a 1972 DDO FS-033.53 DIE 3. It is a MS65 Red. This is an estate coin that I wanted to verify but not having any luck. Did not see it in ANACS pop report. So I go to Barnes and Noble this morning and pick up a couple reference book that I've been slack on. The Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards and CherryPickers Guide Volume II. Both are nice books and a necessity in my case. But that doesn't help me currently with identifying the particular slab in question in order to pursue a purchase. It seems there is a wide spread on these DDO's price wise. I asked B&N to order me the Volume I if it had the penny info and they said it wasn't available on the website.
I do not have the serial# of the slab and have made an inquiry to ANACS about the type's existance per its description. I've requested detailed pics of the slab and serial#. I think I've covered some of the bases with this process but the dilema still exists. Is there a CherryPickers Guide or substitute for the pennies also. If so please help a brother out. Thank you for any assistance in this matter. nlp
Rest in Peace

1972 DDO FS-033-53 is listed in the Cheery Pickers Guide 4th ed. vol 1 on page 143. Value is XF-$2; AU-$3; MS60-$4; MS65-$5. The comment for the coin says it is "One of the stronger of the lesser double dies for 1972. A good number have been found, yet they remain of great interest." Hope this helps.

That sure does help! It's a far cry from what they want for this coin. Thanks for the reference to the book. I'll go surfing for the volume now. nlp

I think the prices in Cherrypicker's guide are dated. I recall seeing slabbed PCGS/NGC MS65 coins go for $20-30. I've also found that an ANACS MS65 is sometimes a lower grade if slabbed by PCGS/NGC.

I think you will find that the prices listed are WAY out of date. If you look on the completed ebay auctions, In the last couple of weeks 2 PCGS 64RD variety 3 have sold for $ 152 ( 19 bidders) and $222 ( 26 bidders). Even though we often say the ANACs is worth significantly less, In these varieties, it is usually 10-15% less, which is fair, since I think the PCGS coins are usually superior for the grade.Varieties 3 and 8 are usually a little less than var#2, which are a lot less than var #1 .

I have noticed several sellers trying to ( unknowingly I am sure )pass off one of the 2,3, or 8 varieties as the big #1 .

Kurt,
I have been shocked at the increases in Lincoln DDO in the last year!
a PCGS MS68 1995 DDO was available at about $75 before Christmas, but now is hard to find under $150. If the 1972 Die #1 didn't exist, I suspect the #2 would sell for about the price the die #1 does today, as it is a nice DDO also. I guess that in order to make a complete lincoln set, some '72 DDO is needed and the alternate dies will fill the "Hole" OK.

Memory....I have to keep learning new ways to say...and WHAT is your NAME?
numbers, coins, emails, I can remember....names are tough Not as old as Dick, but chasing a little back of him !

Jim,
I remember seeing those 1995 DDOs in PCGS MS66-67 for $75-80, so now I don't doubt my memory quite so much!
I should've bought one...
