I got a nice 1945 1 Dollar, CCCS MS64 ; designated ; double HP. It also has a 5 over 5. Beautiful coin, and I'm just figuring out how to take a decent pic. There's a couple bags marks, but it's soo nice! I can't upload anything higher than 300k file size. I'm curious to know if anybody thinks this would grade MS65? Not to undermine CCCS, its just that , the coin is so nice.

This coin id headed for the Dark Side. You need to stop the progress of that toning / patination dead, and right now, or it will loose eye appeal.
With heavy patination, it will be harder to grade from pictures, and will need to be examined in hand.
Even from what I see pictured on the screen, trying to grade above MS63 is very difficult. This is a typical case, where the TPGraders have it over us.
All I can really do is agree with you: it is a nice 1945 Dollar. Bag marks always make it difficult to get to 64 or 5.

Beautiful coin! I really love the toning. I think 64 is where it's gonna go, though; there's some wear on the head that would prevent it from making a near flawless 65. Great coin nonetheless!

Those fields look like there's a shot at a 65 from ICCS, but it would be a gamble.
Sending it to the US (PCGS or NGC) is a gamble too because right now, they're calling most toned coins AT (artificially toned).
Better to keep it as it is.

MS-64 at best. Definitely not a 65. Quote:

Thanks for all the input!
From the research I've done on toning, I don't think PCGS would consider this AT. I would bet money on it.
The fields are good on this coin, and compared to other 64 - 65s I have, this is a pretty decent consideration for a Canadian technical grade. haha
However, ya can't beat the consensus , 64 it shall remain.

99.9% that PCGS/NGC would consider it NT. I see no reason to consider it AT

i remember seeing it on ebay..i was very skeptical about the toning as the seller's pics made it look 'off' to me..on top of that there were other CCCS certified dollars with that kind of colour popping up at the same time..so I avoided it as a likely AT coin...to top it off I have a 1953 dollar with the same toning in CCCS hard holder I bought maybe a year ago and Sandy Campbell called it AT.....be very careful with this piece..
Feel free to call me Will.

I don't buy that.. I think toned coins get the automatic stank eye.. it could be AT! Yeah it could be, however it might not be either! Seems if its in a PCGS slab , then you're probably OK as they have some kind of toning sniffer! and of course ICCS ignores toning. Here's some logic, toned coins general sell for less; unless it has some decent eye appeal and then its subject to AT. Assuming one could alter a coin to look like this, why even do it? Why even take the chance of messing up a MS65 Dollar, or a 1921 AU50 5 cents.. I get it , people are wary of toning, but should we be? Most expensive coins I have seen are full of toning. Heritages website is full of PCGS Canadian toned coins. I wish there was more literature on it.
