Another nice commemorative strange 38 years anniversary and eight stars. I think this is the only coin depicting modern warships and airplanes.

I thought the 38th Anniversary odd as well. Funny, I hadn't noticed the ships. Thanks for pointing out that detail.

Could have something to do with the North and South being divided by the 38th parallel.

Yes, the selection of 1991 for coin's issue (the 38th anniversary of the armistice between North and South Korea) was no doubt inspired by the 38th parallel (a latitude line 38 degrees north of the equator) that roughly divides the Korean peninsula. Such a link, however, was not specified in the legislation that authorized the coin.
