I'm posting this for a friend who isn't a collector but has this coin. I noticed something unusual about it, so I'm looking for confirmation. Here's the reverse:

1942-1-Halfpenny,-Type-D-Reverse?

Does this seem to match the type D reverse (tall denticles) variety discussed here?
Thanks for your input!

KurtS,
That looks like it to me. I have one that is the same. The denticles on the reverse side for the common coin are "fatter" as compared to the rarer type D which are longer and thinner, going close to the legends of the coin. Cheers.

Thanks for the confirmation! I see differences in the cut of the date as well. I have to wonder what the link above means by "rare", as a mintage estimate isn't given. Is this coin described by Maccas in further detail? There's a book I need to get!

I found 5 of these today at a dealer!
That seems a bit common to be called "rare"?

Mairo--
Yes, and apparently there were two reverses used in Bombay for '42. Quoting this source, it states:

Quote:
The majority of 1942 Bombay halfpennies were minted with this "type C" die but a few were struck with yet another tool prepared in Bombay, the "type D" reverse which featured tall denticles. The type D reverse was used for all 1943 halfpennies minted in Bombay.
