I received this Valens AE-3 in today's mail that I thought I'd share with my fellow CCF members. It was part of an unattributed three coin lot from an ebay seller in Germany.

The reverse is the typical Victory advancing left, holding wreath and branch, that usually has the legend of SECVRITAS REIPVBLICAE. However, this coin, from Trier, has GLORIA ROMANORVM.

It's listed as either RIC, Vol. IX, #31 or 47. Both appear to be the same, but the RIC mint mark chart for Trier is a bit confusing to me. RIC lists both as "Rare".

I have a similar coin struck under Gratian.

I don't have that RIC volume in print but the spreadsheets show this as RIC IX Trier 31b type x (a); Sear 19765

It shows RIC IX Trier 47a, type xii as having a palm branch in the left field

Thanks! I wasn't sure how to exactly read the mint mark chart in RIC.
