I have a roll of Lincoln Cent formative years in the us mint roll. I am on the fence whether to leave it unopened or open it and look for errors and coins above ms 64 . What are your opinions and / or experiences with this ?

2009P LP2?. you plan on slab and flip the "finger"? It has its grey sheet fairly high and always will, but the DDOs are indeed selling on ebay because of the wide "recognition". If you don't plan on flipping, I wouldn't break it. It will bring more in 20 years than individual now with all the fees and trouble. I put them in nickel size tubes for storage.

Looks like the consensus is right where I am. But crazybo and tbop make good points and hits home why I am collecting, in twenty years I may not be around and my children will benefit from what I have saved. So I think I will save it for a later time. Thanks for the push in the direction I was leaning towards. I've been looking at this roll for about two weeks now and like coinfrog and jbuck curiosity was getting the best of me .

Just do not forget where you put it. Or, do forget and hope the kids find it some day.

(And then 20 years from now the kids find the roll and take it to the bank for two quarters)

Chances are slim you'll find a variety in those mint issued rolls. As I recall, those were minted early in the run and the different varieties didn't start appearing until well after the initial release. Usually I recommend opening OBW-type rolls but in this case it's probably best left alone.

Quote: I've done that before jbuck. You should probably put them in a Ziploc with a note and some desiccant, just in case.
