The US Mint struck a series of five coins for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition - one silver and four gold. Each of the coins includea an animal in its design. I've already posted the silver half dollar, and its eagle, in this thread...this time out its the gold $1.00 coin and its dolphins. The coin was designed by Charles Keck, who included a pair of dolphina on the coin's reverse. The dolphins are meant to symbolizie the connection the Panama Canal created between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans - two oceans, two dolphins.
