In case anyone is interested, I found a very helpful multi-part video series on the PCGS website about the different aspects of grading coins:

https://www.PCGS.com/education

The first few videos are free.. and you can view the rest if you just sign-up for the PCGS website (doesn't cost anything). I found them very helpful for a "newbie" like me, as they really explained the components of "Mint State' and "Circulated" grading (Strike, Eye-Appeal, Wear, etc.). Lots of good examples to support the discussions. And they did a full review of MS grading of Morgans that was really helpful. Shows all the small differences between each MS grading level.

Regards,

Michael

Yes. Really good examples of the difference between "strike" and "wear", which has always been a tough concept for me as a newbie grader to understand. But the photos and examples really help clarify it.

@ einstem

I was just getting ready to create a thread entitled:

'knowing the grade before submission to PCGS' using this same URL:

https://www.PCGS.com/education

I just read about this topic in my latest Mar./Apr. '18 copy of 'Rare Coin Market Report'.

I'm glad I didn't unknowingly attempt to steal your thunder.

...excellent tutorial even for the pros, or at least those who think they are.
