Howdy, still fairly new to the forums. I'm just curious what the differences of these various albums are.

That is to say, I know there are going to be pros and cons from both sides. Since a lot of you talk about both of these types of albums the must be of high enough grade to narrow it down to those two.
As such, like storing proofs, say pennies.

When I switched from folders to albums, I started with a few Whitman since my folders were Whitman. To me, it seemed Whitman included some varieties that I would not include, and excluded some that I did include. I looked at others, and Dansco seemed to fit my collecting plans better.

I think both are major upgrades over folders. I have been collecting for about a year and a half now and the first album I got was a Whitman Jefferson nickel album. I have had no issues with it in over a year. The only problem I've had is with the blank add-on page I got for it for early proofs. The quality was not a match to the album and it isn't even the same size! Oh well... Then, I bought a Dansco 50 States quarter date album for proof issues only. Then I bought another for the silver proofs. Then I received an LWC Dansco. Then I bought an LMC Dansco w/ proofs. I guess that kind of answers it for me. The Dansco albums just feel better to me. The only negative compared to Whitman is that the pages are not thumb-cut for the plastic slides. That means you have to use an actual coin space to get it out. The Whitman album is thumb-cut to remove the slides. That's really a minor issue, though, and gives the album a "cleaner" look without the notches.

I've used Whitman albums for years. I've always liked them and never had any issues. I recently purchased a Dansco 7070 US Typest album and really like it. Seems like slightly better quality than the Whitman. I was annoyed at first with the lack of notches to slide out the clear plastic but got over it quickly.

I was on the bay the other day (no I am not a poet ) and seen a couple brands I was not aware of. Warman's and Library Of Coins, but I would need to know if they are "safe" for long term storage.Do any of you know anything about these brands? John1

If you got to google and just type in coin Albums, you would find that there are many other brands out there. It is only on coin forums that you hear about certain brands. For example on this forum there are a lot of Dansco people so they are constantly bragging about Dansco. Mostly it is just a thing called preference. However, there are some major differences between those two. For example on thing you always hear about Dansco is that they look like an expensive book. Yet those same people just hide them away so then what. Dansco has the problem of not being able to get the slides out easily. Whitman has notches at the end of a page to grab those slides. Dansco almost always has extra slots at the end for no reasonable usage. Whitman takes the time to have slots for only the coins in that series. Whitman products are really a Harris brand and made in China. Dansco is made in the USA. Whitman has a great catalog that contains many coin books and products aside from Albums. Many Whitman Albums have large covers where you could add extra pages but if you don't want extra pages, just takes up a lot of room. If you need extra slides, Dansco just doesn't seam to have them. Whitman does but you have to almost beg for them to get them. Dansco is sort of a light brown and Whitman is dark blue. You just have to decide what you like best.

Quote: I think both are major upgrades over folders. Agreed. Quote: When I switched from folders to albums, I started with a few Whitman since my folders were Whitman. I started with Whitman folders, but switched to Dansco albums. My grandfather bought my first to Dansco albums for me, so it was really his choice, otherwise I might have bought Whitman albums. I have now used Dansco albums for over 33 years. No regrets, no complaints.

Dansco is definitely higher quality than Whitman. Most of my albums are Dansco. Recently, I picked up a new Whitman album. It feels cheaper than the Dansco albums.
