A friend told me this is worthless - a cull. Is that even possible for a 200-year-old coin? I'm thinking a grade of 1, maybe a 2.

Maybe worth $1 or $2. You can get 1800 year old Roman coins a lot nicer grade than this for a $1 or $2 too. Age has NO INFLUENCE on value.

It has done its duty and is a shadow of her former self. Still an early U.S. government produced relic. Regardless of what others say, do you like it? If so enjoy it. It is a product of our nations early history.

This coin was born when all of these things happened (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1809_...ted_States). You can hold a relic from that year in your hand for very little money.

My feelings exactly, although I couldn't have put it into words. I got the coin from a dear friend and history buff who has held onto this coin for over 40 years. So its value is immense to me! (That being said, it didn't make it into my type album)

I always like these early coppers. They did their duty in commerce and it's always fun to think where it's been and who had it. I would think it's worth more than a buck or two, not much more maybe, but I'd pay $2 per for these all day.
