Found a beautiful Stain Lincoln in cello, Obverse is perfect. Reverse has one solitary mark on the left side of the steps, otherwise no marks and really well struck. Any other marks or blurs in photo are on the cellophane. How badly does this solitary mark effect grade? Otherwise believed it to would be 69. Thanks for helping me understand as I have a similar issue with a 1967 Lincoln from a 1967 SMS. Thanks you.

From what I understand of the process, the grader counts blemishes found on each side. 3 blemishes lower it one grade point THAT side. Graded sides then are averaged out for the total grade. Your "ding" may rate 2 points, its the grader's decision, and believe you me, they will scrutinize. You see one, how bout the edge and rim? They do look under glass(10x) and will see imperfections where you don't. From what I see, need to see the whole coin at once, rims are questionable for a real high grade, but it would be in range of MS67/68. Ding kills it from 70, you knew that. It is so difficult to accurately grade if not in hand!!
Rest in Peace

You are already losing plating below the bow tie.

The plating is intact. Sorry if the reflection caused confusion. The coin is perfect except for this area on the step. Even the rim. I am attaching a couple new pictures. I apologize for any reflection. A couple small light spots from camera spots on the rim but not dings. Shame about this mark on the step, until I saw it I was thinking it was a 69. Appreciate the comments as I learn. Mint grades still baffle me each 1-2 grade differences.

Your coin makes me drool and your pics are very good. I'd give it a 69, but NGC and PCGS would never hire me.

Funny, thank you. At 69 it's worth slabbing, at 68 the cost of slabbing is worth more than the Coin. My gut is telling me that they would call it a 67 or 68 but I have no basis for this
