I thought I had all the 50c coins but I just found out about this one. I didn't see it listed in my 71st Edition of Charlton. Can anyone tell me about it? Was this a business strike or only PL issue or both?

I think they only appear on business strikes.
You can also find missing a "A" or other letters
in nearly every year between 1968 and 1976.
There is also a rare 1974 missing "S".
These missing letters were caused by weak strikes.

Thanks! Any particular reason Charlton doesn't list them?

Probably because of being caused by a weak strike,
they are more of an error coin than a variety.

These were not weak strike phenomena... the 1974 Missing S was a die polishing mistake and progressive die filling was responsible for the Missing A, Missing AD and Missing <other letters in the lower banner>

The 1968 "missing A" are easy to find. Most coin shops will usually have a few for sale.
