High definition and accuracy pad printing on metal surfaces has been around for a very large number of decades.
It has been, and is still currently used in the production of watch dials.

"The Royal Canadian Mint has launched legal proceedings against the RAM for infringement of the Mint's patent in Australia when RAM produced a colour printed version of the Australian $2 coin with a red poppy without first having obtained our consent to do so," RCM media relations manager Alex Reeves told CCN

The RCM may win a patents battle on the use of the red poppy for use on remembrance coins, but that is about as far as the battle might extend. Seems to be a Design Patent issue, rather than a general patent, relating to the technique of color pad printing.

The Ram has used the red poppy on remembrance coins for one year only, in 2012. Since then, the RAM has used a completely different series of color pad printed designs, that does not use the red poppy.

The red poppy flower has been used as a symbol of remembrance since the end of WW1, by many British Commonwealth Countries. They have been sold as a button hole by the Returned Servicemen's League in Australia for fund raising, to the benefit of war widows and their families.
I remember seeing these from early childhood; probably the same in Canada.

I like the idea of a coin that glows in the dark. Only not if made with radiation materials. Imagine dropping a coin in a dark place and being able to find it easily.

Thanks for showing more of your country's lovely, coloured coins Dorado.

Just wondering if you know how hardy the colour is on Canadian coins?

Apparently the colour on our Aussie $2 coins can be removed quite easily by using acetone. It's not uncommon to find examples on ebay where they are listed as being error coins! https://www.australian-coins.com/co...ur-2-dollar/

There are a few smaller countries without their own mints that have colorized circulation coins minted by the RCM - got to see a few in queue for refinishing while touring there in July. Panama's one example with their cuarto balboa
