Quote: This coin has 2 presentation : no color and colored Maybe we should adopt the same idea here in Australia to help avoid tampered coins being portrayed as error coins!

Germany have been issuing NCLT 5 Euro coins since 2016 based around the earth, these are bimetallic steel rings separated by a coloured Polymer ring. A big thank you to my German friend Redlock (Ralf) for these coins in trade - bitte! 2016 was Planet earth and Purple 2017 was Tropical Zone (Based on Koppen's climate system) - Common obverse of all climate coins Tropical Zone, this has a reddish polymer ring. Ralf had to win this for me on ebay as he tells me that 2017 Tropical coins are scarce now and the Earth coins are like €40 - 50! Thanks to him I have a whole set of 2018's subtropical zones Each coin has a different shade of orange according to mint. Mints are Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. Also 3 of 2019's Temperate zone - these are green And 2 of the 2020's Subpolar zone (In complete set of 11 coins he has sent me) 2021 will see the release of the Polar zone!

Australia has also issued a lot more coloured $2 since 2015 2016 saw the issue of Olympic Games A set of 5 coins, each had a ring for a the 5 of the Olympic Games and showed 6 sports. Again the coins had a mintage of 2 million per coin and were sold in Mint packs and distributed through selected supermarkets. Unlike earlier coloured ring coins, these are still not that scarce. There was also a coloured Paralympics coin (Top left with the standard $2 and 2016 Changeover $2 coin) 2017 saw 5 more coloured ring coins 2 more war related ones including the beautiful rememberance coin with a very nice ring colour bands! Also the 3 Possum Magic coins featuring a possum called Hush who gets over shyness. This in my opinion was their first rather frivolous issue and has not taken off like the earlier coins. Again 2 million of each and limited releases outside official mint packs.

2018 saw a slight cooling down of coin issues and less emphasis on dated children's tv shows absolutely unknown outside of Australia (Me as a Kiwi has never heard of Hush the possum or Mr Squiggle until some Australian CCF's introduced them to me). Still we had the de rigeur sports events and war themes. The two better coins were the 100 years remembrance of WW1 and the eternal flame, one of the very best of all the ring coins in my opinion. Less good were these Invictus games (Not coloured, disregard) and the 3 commonwealth ones with a Koala mascot called Borobi, the games logo and Australia emblem. The colours are okay, but these are average coins in reality.

2019 brought out a veritable explosion of coins, some 7 in all including 4 Mr Squiggles The 4 Mr Squiggle coins included 4 characters from this 1980s, 1990s programme - with Mr Squiggle, a bizarre Pencil thing that could draw anything, Gus a snail who loves to show off and gets jealous easily, grumpy old Blackboard and the lovable oaf Bill, a talking steamshovel! All were marionettes and were in a pack of 7 coins, which featured 2 x $1 coins with all the charcters and Mr Squiggle again and a special 1 cent coin showing Mr Squiggles rocket. None of these were coloured. The 3 other coins included 100 years of Repatriation of ww1 vets (Nice significance, but war milking is a big part of these issues) Police and Wallabies (Australian Rugby team which like NZ lost to South Africa in 2019 World Cup). Australia changed to Jodi Clark effigies of the queen in 2019, but all of these coins had the IRB old effigy.

2020 included just 3 more coloured ring $2 coins (Possibly due to covid 19 issues) but the first ever coloured ring $1 coin. Donation dollar, these were minted at a rate of 5 million per year and so far these are meant to be given to the chairty or needy (I was donated mine, as I NEEDED one ). Apparently the green is already wearing off them. 2020 and 2021 dated coins have this effigy on them now Womens T20 Cricket $2 coin The first of 2020's issues included this average design, but some good colour bands. 2nd was 75 years since the end of WW2 (2 examples hown and a reverse), the use of white, blue and green works quite well here! The 3rd was firefighters $2 which used nice red colour to a great effect. This coin was released in October 2020 and next to it is a plain 2021 $2 coin That was all for 2020, but already 2021 has seen the release of the Indigenous Flag $2 coin. Don't have one yet though and no doubt more designs are planned.

Will the RCM also sue New Zealand for their issue of poppy circulation coins?
