Royal Canadian Mint - Your coin's design is punctuated by a vivid Murano glass monarch caterpillar that was handcrafted by a master glassmaker in Murano, Italy; its yellow, black and white stripes the tell-tale sign it is a monarch larva. The glass monarch caterpillar is poised on the leaf of a swamp milkweed plant designed by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais that has been selectively coloured to showcase the plant's long leaves, and its clusters of pink flowers to best effect.

Bit by bit, some RCM products are getting further and further away from what the concept of a coin is supposed to be.

That is OK I suppose; a business can make any type of product it may choose, provided that they can satisfy itself that it will sell.

They may drop collectors of numismatically related products, but they may well pick up other artwork collectors.
That is one of the way in which successful businesses grow; in this case, diversifaction.

This 3rd installment in the latest series is also the lowest mintage (5,000) with the highest price tag.

While it is doubtful the Snail (12,500) or Beetle (8,500) will ever reach their projected maximum mintages this is the first real indication that the series is not expected to perform well.
