When grading overstruck tokens opinions seem as many/different as there as examples to examine.

Opinions on how you grade overstrikes greatly appreciated,
as well as opinions on this 1813 (originals were overstruck on top of guppy half pennies, while later imitations were struck on blank planchets)

What I see is: overstrike nearly obliterated the host, but soft enough that it is identifiable. the softness in the breast feathers are likely due to the soft strike and not because of wear. MS60/61, and if were not for the rim ding perhaps higher.

Never seen one of those. Poor eagle looks ready for the frying pan, or at least stepped on and flattened. LOL! The old "X" in the eye even!

This is a nice ensample of a Breton 994, Charlton LC-54A, and Courteau 25 NL (Non Local).

This series is a well executed ensample of overstriking. Unlike many other overstruck tokens, the restrike obliterated most of the host design. The host token is said to be a worn 'Guppy' coinage.

I believe this series should be graded without consideration of the condition of the remaining host design as scant design of the host token remains. Awkwardness rears its ugly head when dealing with other series such as the Seated Commerce token Charlton NS-18A of which the host token remains the prominent focal point.

In any event, I could grade this token as AU 50, perhaps AU 55.

Nice ensample.
