I'm at a point where I want to start upgrading some of my coins. Of coarse, everyone knows that means more money! I have two already but this one I have my eyes on. I think it's a good example, but the legend is not that great. Any thoughts on this one or should I wait for a better one.

I know it comes down to taste and cost - but still I like to hear from the forum

It's a forgery.

- All of Vespasian's PONTIF MAXIM denarii have a counterclockwise legend
- None of them end in COS IIII
- They all feature Vespasian seated; this one is a female.

I believe the maker of this one accidentally combined their dies for a Tiberius tribute penny denarius with another issue of Vespasian.

Glad you checked first! Generally speaking, I won't buy coins of any of the "big boys" from any seller that doesn't have a rock solid return policy, an explicit guarantee of authenticity, and preferably is a name associated with an auction house.
Rest in Peace

Finn thanks! OMG you are right! I just checked Wildwinds just to educate myself (Again)! My two examples have reverse legends so at least that's good!

Dam, I dodged a bullet thanks to you. I looked through the fake coin reports and did't see this. I concentrated on the reverse so that may explain it. So I'll put it in there.

I don't think he knows it's a fake. I'm gonna start a new thread for another one I'm looking at but I think it's genuine.

Yeah that was my first impressions once I looked at it. Mirror image reverse...

besides his chin and neck are kinda fat looking- The only fat Roman emperor I ever saw put on a coin was Nero

I own at least 1 coin with the mirror of that reverse side - thats one thing I picked up on.
