I found several of these way back in 1999 and 2000. It appears a mint employee "cleaned up" the die, and left poor Caesar Rodney with no reins to hold. And then they loosened his saddle so it doesn't clearly connect with the horse's backside, and worse, they polished away the front of his saddle (the pommel). I mean, how was the poor, sick man (and he was) able to make his most important ride? In any case, keep a lookout for these. They are out there.

Great find! It makes it a very unique error since there's nothing left of the elements. I will definitely keep my eyes out for this error.

I could see how the horse could have no mane.

Cool find. Must be in the desert...don't see any trees.
