It appears a mint employee "cleaned up" the die, and left poor Caesar Rodney with no reins to hold. And then they loosened his saddle so it doesn't clearly connect with the horse's backside, and worse, they polished away the front of his saddle (the pommel). I mean, how was the poor, sick man (and he was) able to make his most important ride? In any case, keep a lookout for these. They are out there. Report this Post to the Staff
