Problem-free attractive 1850 Half Cents are fairly tough in AU or better grades, in my opinion. The one listed below has me flummoxed though. PCGS MS63BN at $2,500 with 2.5 days still left to run. It's a lovely looking example, but per graysheet a 63BN is $420. I would expect a premium over sheet, so I thought an absolute max ceiling would have been $800-1,000. At $2,500 we're well into MS65BN territory. What gives? Is it a variety I'm unaware of, or is it THAT aesthetically pleasing? I own an NGC MS62BN CAC that I'm all of a sudden reassessing the value of. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1850-Braid....m1438.l2649

I've GOT to believe he misplaced the decimal. $250 would make sense.

Looks like a particularly frenzied bidding war.

Quote: I've GOT to believe he misplaced the decimal. $250 would make sense. It's not a fixed price listing. Bidders have bid it UP to $2,500 with 2.5 days left to run. It started at $0.99. P.S. I'll buy as many as you want to sell at $250. That is way too low for this coin. I could easily see upper 3 figures when all is said and done, but the auction is already well above that point. P.P.S. Perusing completed Heritage results, I'm seeing isolated results well above sheet, a 63BN at $1,400 and a 64BN at almost $3,000. Maybe graysheet is that far off the mark and someone thinks it has crackout potential. I recall having a discussion with a Chicagoland dealer almost 10 years ago who felt the 1850 Half Cent was a complete sleeper in higher circulated and uncirculated grades, especially with nice planchets.

Greysheet is a wholesale price. They haven't sold for the greysheet pricd since 2003. The PCGS auction prices realized tool shows them consistently selling for double and triple that

"Freshest"? Autocorrect on Graysheet perhaps? Not sure what you mean otherwise.
I get that Graysheet is wholesale and not always on the mark. Double to triple I expect (which would be $800-$1,200) hence my initial price expectation, but we are now at six times Graysheet, not double or triple.
I'll be interested to see just how much higher it actually goes.

Yea Siri changed that for some reason. It may be a good variety I dunno, but if they're all going double and triple it's not out of the question for a premium one to be around that price

17 of the 25 bids are from two fighters. An ideal situation for David with two bidders that just won't quit.
It may be for crack out as I would have said easy 64 if upgraded.
A 64 of that quality would use $2500 as a nice down payment.

That's a lot of cheddar. I'll be content with my 62 CAC as I like the appearance. I would post pictures, but this board for some reason converts lowercase NGC to uppercase NGC which breaks image URL references if hosted on a linux server, since those filename references are case sensitive. Sigh. EDIT: I'll just link to the web page with my Half Cents on them: https://myhalfcents.com/halfcents.shtml

You could upload the image to CCF, and post that.

What would value be at a MS64?

That bidding is totally crazy. Neither one will pay, whoever wins.
