I found this in a circulated bankroll from a bank box of U.S. Pennies. It also shows a Die Crack on his head and Die Dents. There is a lot going on with this coin. This die was on its way out. It's a very impressive example.

It might be a gas bubble. Or it might be a die dent. The difference? The gas bubble will flatten. (5:00 on obverse)

Thank you Coop for your response. I was thinking it could be a Gas Bubble now that you stated it. After its Acetone bath, I'll poke at the area and see if it flattens. If it doesn't, then it's a Die Dent.

What are you calling a RIDB?

CoinMasters, there's a Die Crack on the bust of Lincoln that turns into a RIDB because the piece of metal is cracked, but it hasn't fallen away yet, making it a Retained Interior Die Break. If you look carefully at my first picture, you can see the RIDB with the Die Crack. Somewhat hard to see, but it's there.

A break has to show horizontal or vertical movement. I see a chip in it.

I'll take better pictures when I get home. I already did an Acetone soak on this coin. This was before the soak.

Here's what it looks like after the Acetone soak. Also with improved pictures.

If the piece was still in the die there would be no design elements in that area. It looks like a nice crack, gouge and chip to me.
I missed that one Chase, I'll see if I can find it.
Here's a Retained Die Break, a Cud because it involves the rim.
