Found this in a roll today and decided to try my hand at grading. Please, give me feedback on what I may be missing or misjudging. This coin appears to me to be a VG.

Your Second coin looks to me like a 1949 S

Just my opinion!

I am leaning toward 1949 s also but I didn't want to bias anyones opinion. Several of my family members thought 1919 s but I agree with your opinion.

I'd say your top cent is probably pretty close to VF.

Although it is difficult to tell from the photo, I vote for the 1919S due to the spacing between the 9s and the shape of the mintmark looks to me to be more like the 1919 than the 1949. Just an opinion.

I agree with Nelrak.

The Red Book uncirculated grading criteria for this coin are as follows:

G-4 GOOD - Date worn but apparent. Lines in wheat heads missing. Full rims.

VG-8 VERY GOOD - Half of lines visible in upper wheat heads.

F-12 FINE - Wheat lines worn but visible.

VF-20 VERY FINE - Lincoln's cheekbone and jawbone worn but separated. No worn spots on wheat heads.

XF-40 EXTREMELY FINE - Slight wear. All details sharp.

AU-50 ABOUT UNCURCULATED - Slight wear on cheek and jaw and on wheat stalks.

The coin clearly meets the criteria for F and arguably VF.

For grading I'd go Fine-15 for sure with a shot at Very Fine-20.

For dating I'd go '49.

Good Luck!

I think your 1929-S is a solid VF-20.

The keys are the separation of the cheekbone and jawbone and all the lines appearing on the top of the wheat stalks (even though some are weak).

Yeah, first coin looks VF.
Second looks like a 49-S, probably AG.

The reason I was going VG is because I misinterpreted the wear on the wheat heads and stalks. Although the stalks are all there , there are worn spots on about half of them. Thanks for the guidance folks!

My grading opinion is fine. Especially on the reverse. The wheat lines are too worn for very fine. Because of the spacing of the 9's I would say the date is 1949 S.

I also came to F-15, and I didn't cheat and look down!

Now, if I could only do it without looking at the Red Book!
