There's nothing specific that makes a variety a "Best Of" or not, John Wexler just labels what he believes are the Best varieties as a "Best Of".

Yeah I always wondered why the minor got best of but the the one with noticable spread and notches

Another great example of arbitrary labeling by one or another "expert". No real standard has been set so my point again, why the disparity between arbitrary values of so-called "error" coins? Is there really a true niche within numismatics for mega-dollar "spike heads" or fancy "BIE" die degradation inflated value of what is normal metal machining production outcomes? There is where I differ from the masses with "error coin values" and contend it is only a relatively current fad kept in perpetuity by some for self aggrandizement and profit. Sorry if you need to look up a few words...my bed has only one side to get out of...
