I have lived in western Pennsylvania my entire life and finding an 'S' mint coin was always a treat. 'P' coins of all denominations are almost exclusive in my area. Usually don't see current year 'D' coins of any denomination until the end of the year or the next year many times. I was just in Las Vegas last week and was delighted to find so many of the 2016 and 2017 'D' quarters that I have been looking for. I also got several 2018-D nickels in change. These are the only 2018 coins I have seen in change of any denomination so far.

I live in the DFW area - just saw my first 2017-P cent last week. So that should say something about the preponderance of D-mint coins here.

While S-mints are found out here on the West coast, I can't say we're totally inundated with them. Some Philly coins are extremely difficult to find out here. I do a lot of nickel coin roll hunting. To date, I've gone through well over 900,000 coins. In that time, I've found only 5 1955 Philly coins. Conversely, I've found 7 1938-S and 13 1939-S coins. Modern S-mint nickels (1968-S through 1970-S) do show up fairly often - I don't keep tallies.

I've lived and collected mostly in the Midwest. There must be a dividing line to the west of me for "S" mints. A few years back when I'd save all the cents, it was rare to find a 1973S, the other years could be found and somne in nicer grades, I'd save even the most humble 73S

The 1973-S Lincoln is a fairly tough pull even out here on the West coast. Only the 1968-S is harder to find. The 1974-S can also be difficult. The 1969-S through 1972-S show up in abundance though. I've been saving most of the S-mint Memorial cents I've found since I was young.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
