Shield Nickel 1882 Over 83 / 3 Over 2 ? Help Identifying Please

themaineway Valued Member United States 92 Posts	Posted 02/19/2018 1:51 pm Hi I know this coin is rather worn. 2 questions... has it been acid dipped by the looks of the field? and as you should be able to see it looks as if there is a 3 over the 2 but does not look anything like the 83 over 2 pics/desc that I have been able to find. This 6pc denominational set $1-.01 was given to me 40 years ago. All the other coins are of rarer date or errors did not realize the error part til 10-15 years ago and just ran across it again and figured I would ask Thank you for any help Report this Post to the Staff

The actual OVD is hardly noticeable between the open portions. http://www.shieldnickels.net/1883_2/fs013_2.html I'm looking for that bugger too...and no, noy raised by vinegar/perioxide or nic-a-date. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 02/19/2018 10:46 pm 1882 heavy 2. Date digits too close together to be an 1883. Unknowledgable sellers often list these as 1883/2's, and sometimes they find unknowledgeable buyers for them. Report this Post to the Staff

No, it's an 1882 with a filled 2 and there is no OVD present. I don't think it's acid-dipped. But it is corroded. It's possible it spent sometime in the ground. Report this Post to the Staff
